SQLC Completes Financing For Mirador in Corpus Christi, Texas

Mirador Perspective Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), a Texas-based nonprofit sponsor of senior living communities, announced that financing was recently completed for its latest project, Mirador.  Ziegler Capital Markets served as bond underwriter of the $79 million financing for the the 17-acre campus scheduled to open in 2011.  Construction is underway for the Corpus Christi, Texas gated community and will include approximately 125 customized independent living apartment homes, each with a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and 24-hour emergency response system, as well as 44 private assisted living suites, 41 private rooms for dignified nursing care, and 18 private residences for memory support. According to Greystone Communities, the Irving, Texas-based development partner, the economic impact of the project for the Corpus Christi community will be significant.

“We are pleased to complete the successful financing of Mirador in the face of what has been not only a very difficult financing period, but one of the most challenging economic periods for our economy in my business career,” said Charles B. Brewer, President and CEO of SQLC. “I believe it reflects very favorably on the concept and design of this senior living community, the talented team that has brought it to the market, and truly the market itself – Corpus Christi – which has embraced the project.”      

The community will serve 125 families seeking an active lifestyle and a premier address close to local restaurants, shops and attractions. 

“Mirador will support the Corpus Christi economy in a big way with a $32,000,000 construction contract,” said Burt Derr, Vice President of Developmental Services of Greystone Communities.  Derr projects that, at the peak of construction, Andres Construction will employ more than 300 construction personnel. 

TrinityCare 2009 Results Show Strong Revenue Growth on Rapid Expansion

TrinityCare Senior Living, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:TCSR.ob) which develops, manages and owns faith-based senior living facilities, announced its operating results for the year 2009 that show total revenues rose approximately 14% to $6,484,598 for 2009, compared with revenues of $5,688,068 in 2008. Trinity saw its gross profit increase in 2009 due to improved occupancy rates at the Company’s three senior living facilities, two of which opened during the year 2007. Operating loss was reduced by approximately 50% to ($489,524) in the most recent year, versus an operating loss of ($975,722) in 2008. After interest expense, non-operating expenses and noncontrolling interest in net loss, the Company reported a net loss of ($1,249,399), or ($0.26) per share, for 2009, compared with a net loss of ($1,416,531), or ($25.21) per share, in 2008.

"We are very pleased with our results for 2009, which reflect the rapid pace at which we have increased the resident census at our newest senior living facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee and Port Lavaca, Texas," stated Donald W. Sapaugh, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TrinityCare Senior Living, Inc. "Based upon total available units in our three facilities, our occupancy approximated 89.8% (203 out of 226 units occupied) at the end of 2009. We look forward to achieving stabilized occupancy in all of our current facilities in 2010."

"Our aggressive growth strategy for TrinityCare, including expansion in several existing and new markets during the next twelve months, has continued to move forward in spite of tight credit markets. In addition, the Company has a commitment to build a 78-unit community in Shreveport, Louisiana. For the time being, we are focusing our expansion program upon locations in the southeastern U.S., where we can provide needed services to local communities while building value for our shareholders. IBM to Work with University of Tokyo to Make Mobile Devices More Accessible For Seniors

IBM (NYSE:IBM) and the University of Tokyo (RCAST) recently announced a new collaborative research initiative to explore an open, common user interface platform for mobile devices, to make them easier to use for disadvantaged populations around the world through its Open Collaborative Research program .  The aim of the collaborative research is to make the internet more accessible to those who are illiterate, blind, deaf, or elderly to access digital information provided by business and governemtns.  IBM researchers in Tokyo and the human information engineering research team, led by Professor Tohru Ifukube of RCAST, will place their research focus on Japan’s elderly population, where the aging rate is growing at a rapid pace, making Japan the world’s most elderly population. With IBM’s accessibility technology expertise and RCAST’s expertise, they will work directly with the elderly to investigate and determine real-life requirements of elderly people when using mobile devices.

"New technologies and various new services will continue to emerge, and mobile devices will become a window of opportunity for us to engage with information anytime anyplace," said Professor Tohru Ifukube of RCAST. "With IBM’s expertise in accessibility technologies and mobile web technologies, coupled with our expertise in five-senses communication and NID’s interface design expertise, we are looking forward to develop inclusive technologies for elderly population to help improve quality of life."

Sunrise’s Head of European Operations to Depart Organization

Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. (NYSE: SRZ) announced Monday that Tiffany Tomasso, the Company’s head of European operations, will leave the organization at the end of the month.  As the Company announced in December 2008, Ms. Tomasso transitioned from her role as chief operating officer to provide closer oversight of Sunrise’s UK and Germany operations. Ms. Tomasso joined Sunrise in 1993 and was appointed Sunrise’s chief operating officer in 2003.  European operations have been reporting directly to the community operating team in the U.S.
