Reasons To Go To Disney Grad Nite

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

One of the best nights of high school, Disney grad nite rises far above all other senior year activities. More fun than any prom or graduation ceremony, this event sticks you in the happiest place on earth with your best friends, live music, good food and a never ending dance party. This event is such a huge party of non stop fun that it will be a night you will never forget!

There are so many reasons to go to this event, but one of the top reasons is that they have excellent music performances every year. For 2010, the artists Flo Rida and Sean Kingston are performing in the Orlando park. Previous years artists have included Ciara, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears.

The music doesn’t end with the performances. It happens all over the park, and there are crazy ways to get involved. The open areas of the parks are like a non stop dance party for you and your friends. Live your lives, live up the night and dance away!

When your legs get tired, there are always the famous rides to partake of! Space Mountain welcomes you with its thrilling twists and turns, or explore the Temple of Doom with Indiana Jones. Or ride the Matterhorn and take in the view of the parks lights against the night sky. An added bonus of grad night is that there are not as many guests at the park, so your wait time is much less.

There is so much fun to be had. Stilt walkers roam the park, and break dancers perform in the midst of your dance parties. You can even be the star for the night at one of the karaoke machines!

If you have ever been to one of these parks, you know that the food is fairly expensive. Grad night handles this for you, and most of the packages cover your food. You can get yummy pizza and a refreshing soda without having to pull out your wallet.

One of the things that truly sets this night apart is only seniors are allowed to attend, which means there are no small children and their parents chasing them.

It is just you and your buddies chilling at the park! Chaperons are included, of course, but they even have a blast on this super fun night.

Putting A Punctuation Point On Graduation With Disney Grad Nite

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

Nothing is more exciting than the day a senior graduates. Family and friends attend the an elaborate ceremony at school providing well wishes to those who were able to earn a diploma, but to top it off, the event is frequently punctuated by the soiree thrown annually by the Disney Corporation providing those in attendance with a six and a half hour party unlike any other found on earth. In 2010 graduates can expect to see a gala unlike any held previously as, according to Disney officials, it is expected to be “the most elaborate celebration in the park’s history.” Not only will the park only be open to celebrants and their chaperons and filled with the usual non-stop fun and adventure, but Disney grad nite is also expected to be a unique celebration that will be remembered for a lifetime with celebrity performances and entertainment of a caliber never seen before.

One of the greatest advantages of this event is the chance to interact with other graduating seniors from around the U. S. This provides them with the opportunity to see that they are an integral part of a larger world and paves new pathways for social networking rarely in any other venue. No longer tied to the social clicks of a structured school, they come to understand that there are many chances to build new friendships with those from other parts of the country; friendships that can last a lifetime if they choose.

Many are familiar with Disneyland’s action-packed attractions, major performances, unique features, and open concept, but this year’s grads will also be transported into a new world with special features and activities designed solely for the enjoyment of graduating seniors. These will not only include some of the most popular entertainers available today, but will also feature a special fireworks display targeted for these special guests. Additionally, for the first year ever, school’s have the opportunity to participate in a pre-grad nite Blast Off party during the two hours prior to the opening of the main park. During this special event not only will grads be treated to a special celebration of their success at Paradise Pier in Disney’s California Adventure Park, but will also have access to the greatest attractions there as well.

The Blast Off party is expected to really pump up the action for the main event not only with music and dance, but with access to some of the most harrowing attractions that portion of the part has to offer. Whether one wants to ride California Screamin’ with its 360 degree spin, go vertical on the Maliboomer, or plunge as a terrifying pace on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, action and adventure awaits and this is all before the big party starts. A short walk across the quad and one is able to step up the pace on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, or even on the Indiana Jones Adventure ride. For others the many multi-themed dance parties held throughout the night will ensure that no one walks away feeling less than satisfied.

The Disney Company maintains high expectations for visitors and Grad Nite is no exception. Attendees are only allowed on the premises by way of school buses and all groups must be accompanied by chaperons. Although these adults are rarely seen, they do wander the park and are on assignment on rotating shifts at the First Aid Center as well as at the Chaperon Lounge where anyone who makes trouble will be retained until the end of the event. This is the last things party goers want is to spend the most important night of their lives sitting on a concrete step, but there is a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior, alcohol, drugs, or any other number of things which are outlined in the brochure sent to each school participating and the Disney staff will not hesitate to ensure that rabble-rousers do not ruin the party for others.

For seniors planning to attend this event, the party begins the minute the gates are opened at 10:30 pm with a dance and strobe light show hosted by KIIS-FM (one of several stations in the park) in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle followed by a fireworks display at 11:30pm. And, from there, it is a non-stop thrill ride until grads are loaded back on their buses at 6:30 a. M. Disneyland is not only decorated in themed regalia, but lighting along the parade route, around the pirate’s lake, and elsewhere in the park is timed to the top 40 hits of last year which are blasted on speakers throughout the park. This not only provides a blinding festival light show as grads enter the park, but directs them to key events as well.

For those unsure as to whether to go to this once-in-a-lifetime event or not the answer is, if you don’t go it will be something you will regret for a lifetime. Few dates are left available so the sooner the school signs up, the better the chances of attending. For schools who have not done so yet, seniors need to take the initiative and fund this trip as well as the cost of tickets in order to ensure they are not left regretting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will never come again. The disney grad nite has become a rite of passage for many seniors. It tells the world they are here and are ready to make a difference, but first, Let’s Party!

Folding Wheelchair Ramps For Easier Mobility

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

Folding wheelchair ramps are a necessary piece of equipment for those using either a wheelchair or a mobility scooter. A wheelchair ramp allows access to classrooms, restaurants and many other locations. A ramp also provides easy accessibility to the houses of family members or friends. Using a folding wheelchair ramp allows the freedom to move around from place to place because of the easy portability of the ramp.

There is a wide variety of mobility ramps available today. They are ideal for use in negotiating curbs or steps as well providing a way to easily load or unload a wheelchair or scooter from a vehicle.

When choosing a ramp, there are a number of things to consider.

The main purpose of a wheelchair ramp is to provide assistance to the elderly or persons with disabilities in getting around physical barriers. The ramp you decide on should be chosen based on what it will primarily be used for.

If a ramp is mostly for entering or exiting the home, it might be a good idea to build a permanent ramp. On the other hand, if you will be moving the ramp around, a portable ramp may be a better idea. A wheelchair or scooter can be very heavy and awkward to try to lift. In fact in many cases you won’t be able to lift them without assistance. Folding wheelchair ramps are a good solution because they are quite easy to move and fold up compactly for storage.

Next, you should also figure out what height you are trying to maneuver as well as how steep the incline is. For example, to load into a minivan, you will have less height to deal with than if you are loading into a pickup truck.

For larger size scooters or wheelchairs, you will want a ramp that is wide enough to comfortably accommodate that extra width. A folding wheelchair will not require as wide a ramp.

Lastly, if you will need to carry the ramp from place to place, like within a building, choosing a lightweight ramp will be important. That’s why an aluminum loading ramp may well be your best option. Aluminum is much lighter than other metals used to make ramps, so aluminum loading ramps are easier to move.

You have several options when it comes to folding wheelchair ramps. You can choose from single fold or multi fold ramps.

A single fold ramp folds in the middle. It is easy to maneuver around and to set up. When folded, they are designed to be carried as you would a suitcase.

Multi fold ramps have the added benefit of being extra long. These are very versatile folding wheelchair ramps. Because they fold into several pieces they are easily carried around while having the toughness to support a lot of weight.

Folding wheelchair ramps are a great mobility tool for anyone who uses a wheelchair or scooter. They provide an opportunity for a greater degree of independence as well as freedom of movement.

What is a Good Cure for Shingles?

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

Nobody wants to have shingles. And since having it can become a very debilitating experience, a lot of people are interested in knowing the best cure for shingles. What is the truth about so called shingles treatments?

Cure for Shingles

There is an ongoing debate on whether there is really a cure for shingles or not. The truth is that the term “cure” may be a little too strong to use. Experts say that there is no real absolute cure for shingles. There is however, no need to despair because shingles can be treated and controlled.

For sure, there are shingles medication that can help alleviate the pain and shorten the period of the condition. Studies also show that even though there is no cure for shingles, treatment can limit a person’s chances of suffering from complications like post herpetic neuralgia and blindness.

Medication for Shingles

Experts don’t consider a good anti viral as a cure since it cannot properly kill the virus. Proper medication however will step up the crusting and healing of shingles blisters by a number of days. Doctors usually prescribe anti viral medication combined with other pain relieving medications.

It is important to note that the earlier the treatment, the more effective and the quicker it can work. It is recommended that medical assistance be sought within 48-72 hours after the first signs of shingles emerge. The first signs are usually pain and some rashes.

Shingles Vaccine

In the past, chicken pox immunization was the solution to reduce the risk of getting chicken pox. Recently, researchers have come up with a solution not as a cure for shingles but as a way of preventing it in people over 60 who have had chicken pox but not shingles.

A new study of a vaccine, however, shows that it can lower the incidence of shingles. This vaccine works best with the elderly and with people who are 60-69 years old. Nonetheless, the vaccine did not prevent shingles 100% in all the participants of the study. Science is still far from discovering a real effective cure for shingles.

Controlling the Spread of the Virus

People don’t get shingles by mere contact. However, through direct contact with blisters, the virus can be spread to individuals who have never had chicken pox and have not been vaccinated. Common sense should therefore tell you that you should avoid direct contact with infants, children and pregnant women. In a lot of people who have had chicken pox, there is no need for direct contact with someone who has shingles to get shingles. A poor immune system is enough to trigger shingles.

Supporting Your Immune System

Although a good and healthy lifestyle don’t directly prevent shingles, it can strengthen the body’s immune system against the disease. Make sure that you cut down on smoking and drinking too much alcohol. You should also cut your stress levels since stress can affect your immune system. It would also do your body a lot of good if you exercised regularly and ate a balanced diet with foods rich in vitamins and minerals.

The secret in getting the best cure for shingles is to learn what cause shingles. Learn more before it’s too late!

Motorized Wheelchairs Can Help

April 2nd, 2010 No comments

Since their inception, motorized wheelchairs have been indispensable to individual with mobility issues who have difficulty transporting themselves from place to place. These devices have also been named electric-powered wheelchairs. They are so-named because each is equipped with an electric motor and navigational devices instead of typical wheelchairs, which require the user to push themselves and do not have an external power source. Technology is constantly changing, and because of this the quality of electric-powered wheelchairs has risen considerably in the last few years. These powered wheelchairs have been invaluable for the elderly, disabled, and for any other persons who have difficulty maneuvering without their assistance. Recently, these devices have also become more commonly used by people with cardiovascular problems, as physicians have begun to prescribe them for such patients.

These motorized wheelchairs use a joystick as a controller to be used by the individual who is using this product. To make the wheels move this product uses electric motors to make the wheel move and usually powered by 4 or 5 amp rechargeable batteries. Electrical Powered Wheelchairs (EPWs) are divided into categories by seat type; while some of the models resemble manual chairs having a sling-style frame and seat, others have a “captain’s chair” seat like that of a car. The EPWs also run the gamut from the small and portable that can be easily folded and carried, to more cumbersome models that require a lift and a rack to transport them.

There are, of course, limitations to who can use these products, as persons having problems moving their upper torso and arms would not often times not be capable of operating the joystick. Conversely, if an individual is quite able-bodied, physicians might not tend to prescribe such wheelchairs, as they are meant for individuals somewhere in between the two ranges. At times, these devices are difficult to maneuver, depending on the terrain ahead, as certain obstacles or low ground clearance can restrict movement in areas where curbs are not designed properly. Transferring ones body from wheelchair to chair or bed is not often easy and usually requires the assistance of another person if the individual is not strong enough.

EPW’s can vary greatly in price. Ranging anywhere from $1,600 to $7,500, these wheelchairs can be acquired in a range of different sizes and models, including front and rear wheel drive. Some EPW’s are designed for outdoor use, while other are designed for indoor use. And then there are more costly models which are designed for both. Usually power wheelchairs are prescribed by doctors to individuals that cannot operate without them or are not capable of using a powerless wheelchair because of some upper body impediment. Considering their high cost, it is wise to consult with your insurance carrier to see if these wheelchairs can be covered by your policy, making them a much more viable option.

EPW’s have been and continue to help the elderly, the disabled, and persons with cardiovascular conditions. Before their existence, these individuals struggled through every day life and required the assistance of others to transport them around. Now that this convenience is accessible to a growing community of people who rely on this technology, the future continues to look brighter. Costs have declined while advance in technology have made these devices more attainable to those who rely on them for their livelihood.
